Offset printing is a printing technology in the printing industry that involves transferring ink from the printing form to the printing material not directly, but through an intermediate offset cylinder. It is performed using the CMYK color model, which allows, with the help of three basic colors (C (Cyan) – blue, M (Magenta) – purple, Y (Yellow) – yellow) and black, to obtain most of the colors visible to humans, as well as various shades obtained by mixing the basic colors.
Screen printing is one of the simplest types of special printing. The peculiarities of the screen printing method are that it is possible to print on different materials, i.e., not only on flat surfaces, but also on various geometric surfaces, while adjusting the thickness of the ink layer. However, it should be noted that screen printing is performed with only one color (Pantone) per run. The difference between these types of printing lies primarily in the application technology, printing speed, and colorfulness of the products.
Fluorescent paints are a special type of paint that absorbs ultraviolet light and emits bright colors. Their main feature is fluorescence, when they absorb short-wave light and emit long-wave light. Fluorescent paints are used for various purposes, such as marking objects, advertising materials, and signal signs, and are often used at parties or in clubs to create a bright effect in low light conditions or under the influence of ultraviolet light.
Thermochromic paints are a special type of paint that changes color when exposed to temperature, for example, they can become brighter or change color from warm to cold and vice versa. They are used in the printing industry, clothing design, medicine, and toys, and can be used for temperature indicators or for decorative and entertainment purposes, such as on magnets or calendars.
Pantone is a standardized color system used in design and printing. Each color has a unique number and formula for accurate reproduction. Pantone differs from the CMYK system (which uses a combination of primary colors to create a wide spectrum) in that it allows you to precisely define colors for printing special elements, such as logos or brand colors, ensuring consistency in reproduction.
Printing using the “4+0” and “4+4” formulas refers to printing methods that determine the number of colors used on both sides of the printing material. 4+0 printing means that four CMYK colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) are used on one side of the printing material, while the reverse side remains unprinted or blank. 4+4 printing means that both sides of the printing material will be printed, each with four CMYK colors.
The printing formula may contain more than four colors when the product design requires the application of special color shades that cannot be reproduced using the CMYK color model. Such shades are reproduced using pre-mixed colors – Pantone colors. Therefore, when the printing formula specifies printing in five or eight colors (5+0 or 8+0), this means that printing is performed using four basic CMYK colors and one or four additional Pantones, respectively.
Food-grade inks are used in printing on food packaging and comply with safety standards. They must be resistant to moisture, light, and other factors that may arise during production and transportation. It is also important that they accurately reproduce the colors on the packaging, ensuring an attractive appearance for the products.
Post-press processing department

After the printing process, sheets with printed products are transferred to the post-press department. The following processes are performed in this department:
• Die cutting
• Embossing
• Hot stamping
• Laminating (bonding two or three materials together)
• Lamination (the process of applying a glossy or matte film to sheets with printed products)
Let’s take a closer look at each of these processes:
1. Die cutting: This is a process that uses a special mold (die) to give the product a specific shape. Die cutting is used to create unique shapes and designs that help the product stand out.
2. Embossing: Embossing is the process of applying a pattern to the surface of a material using high pressure. This can be used to create a raised image on the surface of the product, adding aesthetic value.
3. Embossing: Embossing is the process of adding volume to individual elements of a product. This is achieved using special equipment that heats and shapes the material.
4. Laminating: Laminating is the process of bonding two or more layers of material together. This allows for the creation of more durable and resistant products.
5. Lamination: Lamination is the process of applying a protective film to the surface of a product. This can be used to protect against scratches, stains, and other damage. Lamination can be glossy or matte, depending on the desired appearance of the product.

Lamination — when maximum protection is needed (business cards, menus, covers, often handled, cutting, running) or a soft-touch effect.

Embossing is a type of printing that creates a raised (convex) image using two dies: a stamp and a counter stamp. To do this, the material to be embossed is placed between these dies and an impression is made under pressure from the press. Embossing can give the image a raised effect, making it tactile, which is often used to create impressive and stylish printed products.
Blind embossing is a type of embossing in which a stamp heated to a certain temperature is used to create a flat recessed image on a product, thanks to the significant penetration of the stamp into the material and the smoothing of the material’s texture. This type of embossing is performed without ink or foil, creating recessed image elements that are practically in the same plane. This method differs from conical embossing in that it uses only one cliché and does not allow the use of additional finishing materials when performing this embossing technique.
Yes, when creating a design, you can use different surface treatment techniques simultaneously to highlight the same elements on the product. For example, you can use embossing (or blind embossing) to create raised images or text, and add UV varnish for extra effect and shine. Also, for example, foil stamping can be added to text that is raised using embossing to create an additional visual effect. Such combinations can be particularly successful for creating printed products with a high degree of detail and sophistication.
Scoring refers to making a shallow scratch with the tip of a knife blade in order to set the direction of the fold when folding. In fact, this is an operation of cutting through half the thickness of the material. The cut is made to 1/2 or 2/3 of the thickness of the cardboard, so one layer of material remains intact. Scoring is used in cases where it is necessary to carefully bend a very dense paper blank in different directions along a complex contour or fold thick cardboard.
Creasing is the creation of a straight groove on a sheet of material by pressing. It helps to bend dense types of paper and cardboard at different angles, while preventing the paint layer from cracking and excessive deformation.
As for their differences, it can be noted that although creasing, like creasing, is performed along the fold line, the creasing method involves not just creating a groove, but cutting through the cardboard for further folding.
The most common method of applying Braille to cardboard packaging is embossing. This involves using special embossed matrices with raised dots that create raised Braille images on the surface of the cardboard.
A soft souvenir magnet is created by laminating magnetic vinyl and laminated cardboard, which has already been printed with various images or text. This process combines the magnetic properties of vinyl with the strength and stability of cardboard, creating an attractive and functional souvenir for everyday use or as a gift.
Hardcover packaging with perfectly straight, even edges at a 90-degree angle can be made using a creasing machine, a process known as milling. First, parts are cut out of high-quality material, such as cardboard. Then, a milling cutter is used to make straight and even corners that form the edges of the packaging at a 90-degree angle. After that, the parts are assembled and glued together to form rectangular packaging with perfectly straight, even edges. This process ensures high precision and quality of the final product.
Scratch coating is a special coating on printed materials that is used to conceal information or add an element of intrigue, such as on lottery tickets or promotional coupons. This coating can be peeled or scratched off to reveal hidden elements such as text or images. There are several ways to apply scratch-off coating, such as applying a ready-made coating or using a special foil coating. This material coating technology helps to increase the appeal and effectiveness of printed materials in marketing campaigns.
Slim cardboard is a thin but durable material created by laminating layers of paper or cardboard using special adhesives. It has advantages in printing due to its thinness, strength, flexibility, and lightness. Slim cardboard gives printed materials such as packaging, brochures, leaflets, business cards, boxes, game boards, and advertising materials an elegant look compared to binding cardboard by preserving the white edges of the product. It should also be noted that slim cardboard can be used to achieve any required height (density) of the product.

The following processes are performed manually in this workshop:
• manual assembly;
• packaging;
• tape gluing.
Equipment used in this workshop:
• MBO folding machines: These machines are used for folding, the process of assembling a printed sheet with a smooth crease. Folding is important in the production of booklets, postcards, flyers, as well as catalogs and books.
• MultiEffect folding machine: This machine is also used for folding, but it can have additional functions or specialized settings.
• MBO folding machine (large): This large machine is used for folding large sheets of paper or for performing large volumes of work.
• GDHH 800 folding and gluing line: This equipment is used to automate the folding and gluing process.

On folding and gluing lines (FGL), gluing is performed using specialized mechanisms and technologies. The main process consists of several stages, namely: the stage of preparing materials/blanks and placing them on the line, the folding stage, and the glue application stage. This is followed by the actual gluing, during which the parts of the workpiece are joined together using presses and then sent along the line directly to the boxes for packaging and shipment. If necessary, after gluing, the product may undergo additional processes, such as cutting or forming, to complete the manufacture of the product.
Usually, our company uses FGL to glue products such as boxes with one, two, and three gluing points, cardboard folders, paper bags, wrappers (labels) for boxes, and paper envelopes.
The minimum density of cardboard for gluing on FGL should not be less than 215 g/m2. The maximum thickness should not exceed 400 g/m2.

We are pleased to welcome you to the website of our printing house, Design-Print Ukraine – Custom Packaging Department. This department is an important part of our printing production process.
This department is responsible for sorting products from waste and packaging them in BOPP film. The workshop uses the following equipment:
• ALD-250 X, Beta_1, Beta_2, QP-K-3B_1, and QP-K-3B_2 horizontal packaging machines for packaging products in a horizontal position.
• Horizontal packaging machines “BAZIS” (for packaging products of various sizes): DCWB-320 D, DCWB-250 D.
• Feeders “S 1250EX” – for automatic feeding of products to the packaging machine.
• BAMBI oil air compressor – for generating compressed air used in packaging machines.
This workshop is an important part of the printing production process, as it provides individual packaging for each product, ensuring its safety during transportation and storage or its advertising and sale in this packaging. We use the latest equipment and technologies to ensure the high quality of our products.

Flow pack is individual packaging of each product in three-sealed bags. Such bags are airtight and protect the product from moisture, and when metallized films are used, they also protect the product from ultraviolet rays penetrating inside the packaging. This type of packaging is used for a huge number of product groups in the food, cosmetics, and non-food industries. Any piece product that can be placed on a conveyor belt can be packaged in this way.
Most often, our company is engaged in flowpack packaging of products such as magnets and magnetic bookmarks, lottery tickets, cards, and chips.
Brochure production department
Welcome to the website of Design-Print Ukraine printing house – Manual Operations Department. This department is an important part of our printing production process.
This department performs a variety of processes, which are divided into two categories: those performed on equipment and those performed manually.
Processes performed using equipment include stapling products. This is done using our two-machine wire stitching machine 4BPSH 30/2 and BPSH-30, which can stitch book and magazine products with a maximum stitching thickness of 8 mm.
Processes performed manually include packaging, tape gluing, hot glue gluing, spring assembly, sheet selection, and marking.
We use a variety of equipment in this workshop, including a Joyner JYS5.5 riveter for installing metal rivets (eyelets) on products, a DC-460 creasing machine DC-460 creasing machine for applying crease lines, a BY-600 perforator for punching holes for spirals, a Uchida VS-25 paper drill for creating holes in the foot of products, a QY-30 corner rounder for processing printed products, a manual binder for making perforation holes and crimping the product when fastening the block with a spring, an EKH-455 chamber-type heat shrink machine for packaging various products with heat shrink film, and a BS-6535LA heat shrink tunnel for shrinking all types of heat shrink films.

Assembling a paper bag with tape or hot glue in the manual operations workshop involves unfolding the bag blank on the work surface, applying tape or hot glue to one of the edges, folding the bag to join the edges, and pressing to ensure a strong bond. Next, eyelets and handles are inserted into the bag. After that, quality control is carried out, and the finished bags are packed and labeled for further use or shipment.
Процес виготовлення настільного календаря типу “будиночок” включає розробку дизайну і друк календарних сторінок. Далі, для забезпечення довговічності, сторінки ламінують та наносять різні поліграфічні ефекти для оздоблення виробу. Потім відбувається порізка сторінок та їх перфорація, сортування та підготовка до складання. Під час складання спочатку каширується палітурна основа календаря, далі до неї на пружину кріпиться календарний блок та інші атрибути у вигляді блоків для записів чи кольорових наліпок. Фінальним етапом є перевірка якості календаря, пакування та маркування.
First, the cards are sorted manually by company employees according to their type, value, or suit, depending on the game concept. This may include sorting cards by color, number, or other characteristics. After sorting, a second quality control check is performed to ensure that all cards meet production quality standards. The cards are then assembled into one or more decks according to the customer’s specifications and packed into a box ready for sale. If necessary, the deck of cards is also tied with a PET strap, placed in a ZIP bag or a bag with an adhesive flap, or heat-sealed in film to prevent the deck from scattering when the package is opened.
